Foundation Skills Courses

Athletes wishing to expand their skills from single discipline pursuits to multisport events have the opportunity to learn new skills through Domestique Fitness’ suite of foundation skills courses

When learning a new skill, it is essential that correct technique is taught, understood and adopted from Day 1. As a result, all Domestique Fitness’ Foundation Skills courses are conducted one-on-one and involve 2 x 1-hour sessions

Depending on the needs of the athlete, foundation skill courses are delivered by Domestique Fitness in Sydney’s eastern suburbs

Course Format

Courses are delivered through two separate one-hour sessions as arranged between you and your personal coach. All sessions are tailored to your learning pace and follow a format of demonstration-explanation-practice.

Demonstration

Complete skill is demonstrated in real time.

Explanation

Skills are broken into their core components and taught step by step.

Practice

Skills are practised under close supervision to ensure correct technique is established.

Intro to Ocean Swimming

Are you looking to get out of the pool and enjoy the ocean?

Who is this for?
  • Still water swimmers that wish to swim in the ocean with confidence
  • Still water swimmers wanting to start training to complete their first ocean race
  • Nipper parents wishing to learn the basics of ocean swimming
  • Overseas visitors wanting to learn how to enjoy the ocean safely
What are the prerequisites?
  • To undertake the practical component, a student must be able to swim 400m freestyle continuously in still water
What is the format?
  • One-on-one coaching over 2 x 1 hour sessions
  • Sessions are currently delivered in the eastern suburbs of Sydney
What skills are covered?
  • Identification of beach hazards and wave types
  • Wading
  • Dolphin diving (aka porpoising)
  • Sighting and use of landmarks in open water
  • Wave catching (from a standing start)

Intro to Road Cycling

Clip into pedal cleats and ride safely in a bunch

Who is this for?
  • People wanting to enter the sport of road cycling
  • Cyclists wishing to start using pedal cleats and cycling shoes
  • Cyclists wishing to join a bunch riding group
What are the prerequisites?
  • To undertake the practical component, a student must have a road bike as well as an AS/NZS 2063:2008 standard approved bike helmet
  • Prior to the course, students should have undergone a professional bike fitting to ensure they are riding a suitably sized bike and are setup in the correct riding position. Pedal cleats and cycling shoes are preferred but not mandatory
What is the format?
  • One-on-one coaching over 2 x 1 hour sessions
  • Sessions are currently delivered in the eastern suburbs of Sydney
What skills are covered?
  • Basic bike care and maintenance (including tyre changing)
  • Cycling technique (including hill technique)
  • Gear changing
  • Hazard awareness and bunch riding
  • Swim/Ride and Ride/Run transition (for triathletes as requested)

Intro to Endurance Running

Can’t run more than 2km without feeling like you’re about to die?

Who is this for?
  • People who enjoy running socially and want to ensure they have good technique to prevent injuries
  • People who wish to enter the sport of endurance running and safely complete distance running events
What are the prerequisites?
  • There are no prerequisites
What is the format?
  • One-on-one coaching over 2 x 1 hour sessions
  • Sessions are currently delivered in the eastern suburbs of Sydney
What skills are covered?
  • Running technique
  • Hill technique
  • Pacing
